Involved in important biochemical processes, in the photosynthesis and in the cellular respiration; it is a key component of many enzymes necessary for the production of plant power.

It is involved in the synthesis and use of some plant hormones, such as ethylene, which regulates growth and ripening of the plants and in the development of cell walls, contributing to the synthesis of ligning, a structural component necessary to provide plant rigidity.

Having antimicrobial properties it contributes to prevent and treat pathogenic infections.

It is essential for plants only in limited quantities and a too high copper availability in the soil may result toxic for the plants. As a consequence a balanced quantity of this micronutrient in the soil is essential.
